ARTYGRAM / @pollynor

Every woman has a demon to make peace with

By

He is 28 years old, works in London and says she has always drawn, since he was a child. Polly Nor (IG account: @pollynor) is a girl who was struggling to follow every subject at school, except for one: the drawing. Graduated from Loughborough University, she faces a long period of crisis and total uncertainty, compiles applications but does not feel fulfilled, does not understand what to do with her life. Coming to reconsider from the beginning, she decides to give one, and only one, opportunity to her own art: a year of time to try with the drawing: "If it doesn't come out anything I'm going to be a receptionist" she thought.

Polly publishes her first works on Instagram in 2014. They are black and white, they are small but they are immediately successful. The increase of followers pushes her to continue, studying drawings of a larger size, coloured, with characters accompanied by narrative traces. Absolute protagonists of her works are women. Modern, current and nude. They are painted in their most natural state, while they take a selfie and await the likes, while masturbating, while they sleep or make makeup. Very strong and always present the focus on female sexuality.

In every illustration, beside women, a demon occurs. An inner character, aimed at representing a vewled part of our character. That unstable, insecure, grotesquely hidden part of the world. Polly's drawings show us what happens when we have no one around, when we are far from judgment, when we take off our costume and let live our nature. The subconscious is the main territory in which the Nor operates. Every woman, stripped of makeup and clothes, returns to be true and sincere with the world. These designs represent a true journey to discover the woman of the twenty-first century.

Perhaps the ironic and sarcastic taste of the young artist is not for everyone, his illustrations are often cruel and terribly strong, but this is also their beauty. His work deserves some of our attention: follow her on Instagram and on her website where you can buy her art printed on bags and t-shirts. Click here to discover last ARTYGRAM episode.
