She Rules / May Edition: Marta Matilde Favilli

@martilde.f

By

Marta Matilde is a young entrepreneur. Strong personality and sincere smile is a member of the Virgo female collective.

On Instagram @martilde.f, the protagonist of May told us who she is, where she wants to go and what her hopes for the future are.

Tell us about yourself and what you do in life.

I'm Martilde, I'm 27 and I've been living in Milan for 8 years, where I moved to study Fashion Business. Arrived in this metropolis, right from the start I was fascinated by the multiple independent realities founded and composed entirely by young people with the desire and the energy to spread their values and their talent. I speak mainly of collectives of young creatives and/or people who share the same ideals and who have the desire to commit themselves to making Milan a more attractive and dynamic city.

I am proud to be part of Virgo, a predominantly female collective, which promotes positive messages of self-confidence and women empowerment. The experience at Virgo has allowed me, over the years, to train myself on a personal level by increasing the security in my abilities to the point that, after various work experiences as an employee, I want to start a career as a “small entrepreneur”.

For almost a year I have been managing L’Altro Tramezzino, a gastronomic start-up that well represents my Venetian origins, a territory in which the sandwich, in fact, is a strongly traditional food.

What are you trying to convey through social media?

The world of social media has for me the role of “speaker” of my ideals and my personal taste. On my feed I love to share personal experiences, be they journeys, memories, read books and people part of my life. I believe that Instagram, if used rationally, can be a powerful tool of connection between individuals and a democratic channel of free expression (or almost).

What is modern feminism for you?

To speak of feminism today is first of all to have overcome the fear of freely using this term. Today, finally, many women (and even some men) are activists in promoting a more equitable reality, in which women can have equal opportunities and worthy treatment in every context of society. Much of the credit goes to the social media for having transmitted the positive messages of influential people much faster than the traditional means of communication, thus being able to reach girls all over the world directly.

For this reason I believe that the “theme” of feminism is destined to be ever more present in people's thoughts with the hope that society will soon come to adapt to new, unbridled needs.

Three things you would definitely like to do as soon as possible.

Open a second sales point of my start up, L'altro Tramezzino, continuing to promote our product and our philosophy that combine high quality ingredients and sustainable processes and packaging materials.

Discover the scents and colors of Provence, in a road trip to the Basque Country.

Resume playing the piano. A beautiful thing that I abandoned too soon and that would help me relax and concentrate.

What will you do in 10 years?

In 10 years I imagine myself as an independent woman, satisfied with my personal and professional path. I hope to have “a room all to myself” (citing the legendary Virginia Woolf, a great feminist example), in which I will only be able to spend time with myself. I dream of a peaceful life, in constant contact with nature.

Good luck Martilde <3
