Distant recollection of the years 90s, the Polly Pocket were the most successful miniature dolls in history. Incredibly detailed and really tiny, two or three inches just, they became a super cult in no time.
The idea was born in 1983, when Chris Wiggs created a mini dollhouse for his daughter Kate, using a small towel rack. The intuition, simple and effective, was patented in 1989 by the company Bluebird Toys, which distributed the early versions of the Polly Pocket.
Each box was a real miniature world, full of surprises and hidden secrets. From the bar full of colourful cupcakes, to the cottage in the mountains, to the concert, to the desired "Polly's bedroom". The sets were very tiny, but full of precious details, stickers and meticulous decorations.
The dolls had articulable limbs, silicone dresses and fashionable hairstyles. In Each casket the girls could find a mini doll, two hidden surprises and three accessories.
In 1998 Mattel became the brand's absolute owner. The success is overwhelming and the famous Polly, restyling after restyling, becomes a true fashion doll. They come out video games dedicated to her and small web-series.
For the true nostalgia, the memory of the mythical Polly Pocket has been re-proposed in a new bag. On sale on the site Truffle Shuffle we can indeed find the Polly Pocket bag. Pink and heart-shaped, with a delicious golden chain, unfortunately it is no longer a small world to play with, but it has inside the prints of the beautiful settings, with a lot of mini characters.
Moreover, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary, the Hot Topic chain of shops presented 17 products, in collaboration with Mattel, inspired by the small dolls. T-shirts, stockings, bags and long-awaited make-up accessories, all strictly pink and typically pop.
The contemporary version of Polly Pocket has seen the abandonment of practicality. They have increased the size and lost their magic "Pocket". For the most affectionate version years 90s is for sale at Amazon, with less than ten euros you can immerse yourself in that wonderful past.
