It was on March 23, 1990 when “Pretty Woman” was released in American theaters. A date to remember because the film became a real cult and entered our imaginary as few films do. A simple romantic comedy that has made history, a modern fable still timeless today. “Pretty Woman” is the story of a girl who makes it despite everything and everyone who shows us the taste of revenge. Julia Roberts plays Vivian, a prostitute who lives without much pretensions and works on Hollywood Boulevard. Richard Gere is Edward, a billionaire profiteer. From an exchange of indications the two find themselves spending the night together. The next day, Edward will propose to Vivian to spend the whole week with him. Like a modern Cinderella, Vivian manages to make room in a society that looks down on her, judging and despising her. Famous is the scene in which Roberts goes shopping on Rodeo Drive and is snubled by orders for her vulgar and scruffy appearance. We like “Pretty Woman” because it tells the change. The classic American Dream, which allows anyone to improve and aspire to the best. And if the ending seems pretty obvious, it's still what we all want to see. The message is clear and still works well. Protagonists as much as the actors are the clothes worn in the film. On Asos UK a year ago came out the dress sported by the beautiful Julia Roberts in the guise of Vivian. How not to remember it?
