But who’s behind this account where Ariel, Cinderella, Trump, Putin, Kimye&Co coexist? Although their creator originally wanted to be anonymous, these days a few more about him is known. He’s almost surely a 30-year-old man, Syrian, grown up watching a lot of TV, the magic box that triggered his artistic talent. Because of his nationality, banned by Trump’s ferocious anti-immigration policy, he couldn’t attend his own exhibition that took place in New York. But SaintHoax didn’t stop indeed: from 11 to 14 October at Beirut’s The Egg (a former cinema from the 60s partially destroyed during Lebanon’s Civil War) will be displayed his new exhibition, MonuMental, featuring oil on canvas paintings, installations and videos. In these days, a huge inflatable panzer with Trump’s face is driving around the city to sponsor the highly hyped event.

The artist surely loves contrasts, as his name suggest, an antinomy that makes sacred and profane clash. While Saint recalls spirituality, truth, holiness (his logo’s “T” is a cross), Hoax suggests that anything, especially in the net, populated by fake news, is made up of constant manipulation.

His irresistible work of arts are also up-to-date, as the Instagram’s hic et nunc law imposes here and in many other realities, from luxury brands presenting see now buy now collections to fast foods. SaintHoax declares that in an era where anything is disposable, artists must keep creating according to the latest news. Right after the already legendary catfight between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, the artist depicted Cardi as a modern, Dolce&Gabbana dressed up Cinderella who runs away from the party after sacrificing his red shoe for a grater cause.   On his account, followed by 745 000 people, he describes himself as “POPlitically Incorrect”, pop culture’s user and manipulator, able to convey important social messages through his feedback. Examples are Trump’s grumpy face where his motto “Make America Great Again” is shaped as a Hitler-like mustache, or a typical family from 50s commercial, where the patriarch and his guests are photoshopped with the faces of Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Terry Richardson, Kevin Spacey etc., and the obedient wife, personification of Karma, is serving them a thick pile of documents, because “she keeps receipts”.   SaintHoax acknowledges the fact that Instagram is a double-edged sword, since you can actively like and reflect on a post or either passively scroll down. What he really likes about socials is that they give you the chance to express yourself and your version of the story, rising against the big media’s monopoly.   For all those who want to meditate on the bittersweet world of politics and show biz it’s therefore highly recommended to follow this artist, renamed by some the “Banksy of Generation Z”: mysterious, irreverent and irresistible.
